What is the RVDA ?

The RVDA is a formal body that was formed by the majority of American Motorhome Dealers in the UK as a platform that could deal with any issues that might arise either now or in the future. A similar organisation exists in the USA to promote the RV Lifestyle and the RV Community, from which everyone benefits, both dealers and customers alike.

With the increasing number of American Motorhomes entering the UK, both dealer supplied and individually imported, it was apparent that there was a need for such an organistaion to provide the industry with a truthful and dedicated source of information.

Contrary to statements made by some dealers (regarding "Grey Imports"), all American Motorhomes whether supplied by a main dealer or otherwise are manufactured on the same production lines.

• They are all built for the American Market (all are Left Hand Drive - a UK spec vehicle would be Right Hand Drive)

• They do not differ in the fundamental aspects of design and build quality i.e. dimensions and weights and are the same in almost every  fundamental aspect. However some main dealers can request that they are accessorised differently.

• Warranties held on these vehicles are held by the dealer who is supplying  the vehicle and not the manufacturer and therefore the warranty is only as good as the person  or company supplying the goods.

• All American motorhomes are  converted in the UK and all respectable dealers carry out a professional electrical conversion. There are a number of fully qualified engineers that perform the conversions for most of the dealers in the UK and have done so for many years.
  

The RVDA was formed following recent issues that have arisen during 2006, with registering newly imported American Motorhomes and the apparent lack of progress made to date in resolving  these issues.
Various meetings have been held throughout the year concerning these matters with all the dealers in the UK in attendance. It was decided that despite our differences that for the benefit of the American Motorhome, the industry  and their Owners  that we approach this situation as one consolidated front. The RVDA was formed as an official association and legal entity and registered as such at Companies House.

The RVDA members  and it's Directors will act as a link between the RV Community and Government Departments. Since its inception  several meetings have already been held with selected spokespersons present from the RVDA and high ranking DVLA officials  and progress already seems to be underway.

What are the RVDAs Goals ?

The purpose of the RVDA is to promote and secure the future of the American Motorhome industry in the UK for the benefit of everyone involved (dealers big and small, their customers, personal importers, affiliated businesses and clubs). It is not there for the personal gain of any one dealer but the industry as a whole, their customers and the RVing community in the UK.
